35th edition of India International Leather Fair at Chennai Trade Centre

For Indias goal in achieving 5 trillion dollars economy, the leather industry would play a key role. Focusing on enhancing the quality of leather products is important. This was as per Mr Mahendra Nath Pandey, union minister for skill development and entrepreneurship.

It is important to note that the leather industry is predominantly an MSME driven sector and it provides jobs to 4.42 millions of people from the weaker sections of the society.

He shared his thoughts about the importance of the leather industry at the 35th edition of India International Leather Fair inaugurated at Chennai Trade Centre. He brought to light about the women working in the leather field and said it was 30 percent.

Council for Leather Exports have joined hands with ITPO or Indian Trade Promotion Organisation with other apex leather bodies in organizing this leather fair in Chennai.  This leather fair would have as many as 450 participants including 150 from foreign nations

Development of skills is very important and Mr Mahendra Nath Pandey urged the leather sector to focus on this. There would be multiplier effect in the skill development space and the leather industry would create this after bridging the skill gap. Full support would be provided to the leather industry from the ministry and centre. This was confirmed by the union minister. 

Key strengths of TN with respect to investment were highlighted by Mr Sampath, TN industries minister and by Nilofer Kafeel of Labour and Employment department. The state government would extend its support to the leather industries was also mentioned by Mr Sampath.
