Traffic changed in Chennai Metro City on 11th and 12th October

As the Modi-Xi meet is scheduled at Mahabalipuram on 11th & 12th October, a range of security measures is being undertaken in Chennai Metro City.

A report released by the Chennai Metro City Police Department mentions:

Because of the scheduled meeting of the India Prime Minister Narendra Modi and China President Xi Jinping on 11th and 12th October 9 (Friday and Saturday) at Mahabalipuram, it is expected that the traffic would increase to a higher level and hence there would be delays in traffic movements especially in the section GST Road (Chennai Airport to Kathipara Junction), Sardar Vallabhai Patel Road, Rajiv Gandhi Road and East Coast Road.

So, the various companies/organisations, IT establishments, commercial establishments, educational institutions and the public situated in the above roads are advised to take note of this in advance and make arrangements for their travel plans and the routes.

Further, all heavy-duty vehicles, goods vehicles, light commercial goods vehicles, tanker lorries, etc., will not be allowed in the above roads on 11th October from 6.00 AM to 11.00 PM and on 12th October from 6.00 AM to 11.00 PM.

Further, the following traffic changes are to be implemented during the VIP travel on some of the above routes:

11th  October - 12.30 PM to 2.00 PM

Vehicles proceeding from Perungalathur to the city will not be allowed on GST Road- instead of from the 0 Point Junction via the Maduravoyal Outer road. All vehicles proceeding from South Chennai to North Chennai will have to travel via Pallavaram Radial Road and Chromepet-Tambaram Road using the Madhravoyal outer road.

Vehicles proceeding from Tambaram and Chromepet areas can use the Pallavaram Radial Road.

11th October - 15.30 hours to 16.30 hours

All vehicles coming on GST Road will not be allowed to go to Guindy from Kathipara junction - instead, they will be diverted via 100 feet road.

11th October - 14.00 hours to 21.00 hours

All vehicles entering the city from Rajiv Gandhi Road (OMR) will be diverted to Perumabakkam at the Sholinganallur junction. Further, all vehicles coming from East Coast Road will not be allowed to the Muttkkadu at Akkarai junction.

12th October - 07.30 hours to 14.00 hours

All vehicles entering the city via Rajiv Gandhi Road (OMR) will be diverted to Prumbmbakkam Road at the Sholinganallur Junction.

12th October - 07.00 hours to 13.30 hours

All vehicles coming via East Coast Road will not be allowed to go to Muttukkadu at the Akkarai junction.

The Police Department requests the public to cooperate regarding the above traffic changes in order to ensure that the important India visit of VIP would be safe/secure and also successful.
