In Chennai, more than 100 e-seva centres shut now, people face issues

The latest news is more than 100 e-seva centres have been shut out of total 158 e-seva centres in Chennai. This has happened in the last 2 months of time. To change the addresses or to make corrections in their aadhaar cards, the residents of Chennai have been asked to go to other zonal offices present at some 20 km away.

For 2 months, a 58 year old resident belonging to Sholinganallur has been struggling to get her phone number changed in her aadhaar card. Information collected is the e-seva centre in her area received as many as 75 such petitions every day and is not functioning.

It was pointed out by this resident that she was asked to change her contact details in her aadhaar card that was linked to PF. Usually e-seva centre functions in her place and since it has been closed now she doesn’t know where to go for changing her contact details. She then spoke about how e-seva centres in places like Adyar, Kodambakkam have been functioning and how those places were far away for her.

It is worthy to note that in the Chennai city e-seva are run by TACTV or Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable Televison. In addition to this, e-seva centres are also available in the corporation zonal offices and in the taluk offices. Point is many private companies have also been given permission to make changes in aadhaar. Certified operator or supervisor certificate is mandatory to perform aadhaar enrolment and to get jobs at these centres.

It was later mentioned by a resident of K.K. Nagar that the employees have to work from 10 am to 5 pm and salary of Rs 6750 per month was given to them. The important point here is this resident has passed the examination.  The central government takes note of the mistakes committed by the employees at the e-seva centres and when these mistakes are committed frequently then the access to the website would be blocked. This was also later mentioned by the resident of K.K. Nagar.

It is shocking to mention here that in the last month as many as 123 operators lost their access and in the last week 20 odd operators lost their access. This has been confirmed later by Mr. P. Shankar, managing director of TACTV. He spoke about how 2 operators are appointed at each e-seva centre.

Mr. Shankar then explained about how there is a huge shortage of manpower as their access to the website needs to be cleared from the central government and how it would be a lengthy procedure. To make sure that this issue doesn’t come up once again, there are plans to create a talent pool. It is revealed that the corporation zonal offices are accepting these petitions.
