As many as 45 government schools in TN become libraries now

On Thursday, 18th July 2019, in the assembly, school education minster Mr. K.A. Sengottaiyan spoke about how there are 45 government schools in TN and how these schools with just one or no students has turned into libraries now. He then added that the libraries are just temporary ones and the premises would become schools once the enrollment goes up.

It should be taken into account that there were some reports that claimed that the government was planning to close 1400 odd government aided schools in TN with low student enrolment. The school education minister explained how this was wrong and how the students were transferred to other schools for now.

It was also reported that the government has cut down funds for some schools and agreed to merge 1000 other low enrolment schools with nearby schools. It must not be forgotten that in the beginning of this year school education department had instructed its district level authorities to collect list of elementary schools with less than 10 students. The point is as many as 1800 schools fell in the category.

As many as 12000 libraries set up at village panchayats under Anna Marumalarchi Thittam were dysfunctional and should be revamped soon. This was as per DMK MLA, Mr. Tenarasu.
