Move to bring down DPI buildings does not go down well

The heads of departments of the Directorate of Public Instruction (DPI) have been working day and night to find an alternate building to move to as the State School Education Department has taken a decision to raze down all the buildings in the campus to make way for a state of the art knowledge park.

Speaking to the media, academician Dr. S. S. Rajagopalan said, Why cant the government set up this knowledge park at a spacious place in Kotturpuram or Taramani where the government has huge repository of land? (I) had passionately looked at the Rose garden in the DPI campus 60 years ago, which went missing later. One has to keep in mind the heritage value of the DPI campus. You cannot just like that demolish all buildings and construct the knowledge park.

Even those inside the Department are not happy about the move. You have several offices inside the campus. Where will you move such a big department? We welcome changes but not at the cost of demolishing buildings which were renovated recently as you are going to waste public money, said Secretary of Tamil Nadus Nursery, Primary, Matriculation and Higher Secondary Schools K.R. Nandkumar.
