Three months back in Brindavan Nagar in West Mambalam in Chennai, footpath was laid next to the tenements of slum clearance board is well known. This foot path is now making sensational piece of news.

It is revealed that this footpath has been taken over by the junk food vendors, parked vehicles and hawkers. The mechanic shops and provision stores have also been making their presence felt on this footpath. This has made the lives of pedestrians very difficult as they are now forced to navigate and walk on the busy one-way bus route connecting Ashok Nagar and T. Nagar.

Footpath has been laid along 250 m of the road and hence it is now said that GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation has done an incomplete work.

It was pointed out by a vegetable vendor that the footpath was laid more than 2 months ago and it has been utilized by shopkeepers, vendors etc. The GCC would be laying footpath on the opposite side of the road also. Planning of road demarcations is a must and the Chennai Corporation must consider this before laying out footpath or widening of the roads.

A civic activist, Mr. Gopalakrishnan, expressed his thoughts and spoke about how it was a bus route road and how randomly made footpaths would lead to carriageway and choke the road that leads to T. Nagar. He shed light on the importance of the width of the road and spoke about how before carrying out the work the width must be kept in mind and how when the footpath is constructed the width must not be compromised. He finally spoke about how he had given many petitions regarding the markings to be made based on the revenue records and how the corporation officials did not take any action. It is important to mention that at Rippon buildings, work along the bus route roads is overseen by the officials and the same work in the interior roads is delegated to zonal officers.

Zone as well as ward level officers have to carry out activities in order to check the encroachments and this was confirmed by a senior official belonging to Chennai Corporation.
