Vaikasi Brahmotsavam festival in Kanchipuram Sri Varadarajasami temple commences from 17th May

The grand ‘Vaikasi (Tamil Calendar month) Brahmotsavam’ festival is scheduled to commence on 17th May in the famous Kanchipuram Lord Varadarajaswamy temple.

The Lord Varadarajaswamy temple is one of the top landmarks og Kanchipuram and it is considered one of the most sacred Vaishnavite temples. The grand Brahmotsavam has been traditionally celebrated annually in the Tamil Calendar month of Vaikasi.. This year, it is set to commence on 17th May with the divine flag-hoisting ceremony. The festival is set to conclude on 26th May.

During this Vaikasi Brahmotsavam celebration, the adorned deity of Lord Varadarajaswamy will be taken on a procession in various special carriages such as Simham, Hamsam, Seshan, Yali, Hanumanthar, and elephant twice a day in the morning and evening sessions along the corridor streets of the temple and offer Darshan to the devotees.

The most important event of the festival, the procession of the deity of Lord Varadarajaswamy on the carriage of Garuda is scheduled on 19th May and the procession on Chariot (‘ther’) on 23rd May.

`Dwadasa Aaradhanam’ is scheduled to be performed on 26th May. The festival will conclude with the ‘Vettiver Sappara Utsavam’ on 26th May.

Subsequently, the famous ‘Athi Varadhar Peruvizha’, celebrated once in 40 years, is scheduled to be celebrated in a grand manner from 1st July for 48 days. The temple administration and the special festival council are jointly organising this function and making arrangements.
