Prospects of rain today (9th May) in Tamil Nadu

The Chennai Meteorological Centre has informed that there are prospects of mild rain today (Thursday, 9th May) in Tamil Nadu due to the phenomenon of thermal convection.

With the peak of the summer ‘Agni Nakshatram’ or ‘Kathiri Veyyil’ in progress at present and the impact of the scorching heat being extremely severe, with hot winds blowing across, the public is exposed to extreme hardships! The vehicle drivers are affected with great stress. The public refrain from venturing out of their houses because of the intense heat level!

In this situation, the Chennai Meteorological Centre has relieving information that there are prospects of widespread rains in Tamil Nadu due to the phenomenon of thermal convection.

The officials of the Chennai Meteorological Centre shared:

‘Due to the phenomenon of thermal convection, there are prospects of mild to medium widespread rains in the next 24 hours (Today, Thursday, 9th May). There are prospects of heavy rain with thunder in 1 or 2 places.

There are no prospects of the speed of the blowing hot wind going up further! However, this prevailing climate trend will continue for the next 48 hours (today and tomorrow).

The Chennai Metro City will remain somewhat cloudy, There are prospects of the cold breeze blowing across in some places in the evening session.

As at 8.30 AM yesterday (Wednesday, 8th May) in the last 24 hours, a maximum rainfall of 9 cm rain has been recorded at Thirukkovilur in the Villupuram District.

7 cm rain has been recorded in Manapoondi in Villupuram District. 6 cm of rain has been recorded in Thallakulam, Madurai district and Mayanur in Karur district. 5 cm rain has been recorded in Kanchipuram district. 4 cm rain has been recorded in Dharmapuri.
