Just four days into the month of May, the city of Chennai has already become very hot and the residents are finding it very difficult to cope up with this extreme heat. On Friday, 3rd May 2019, the temperature in Chennai airport recorded 42.5 degrees Celsius is known now. The important information is the temperature would be around 41 degree Celsius till Sunday, 5th may 2019.

By Friday noon, the mercury levels rose to 39.8 degrees Celsius in Nungambakkam and 42.5 degree Celsius in Meenambakkam. It is now said that this is the second consecutive day that the temperature has gone above 40 degree Celsius in the suburbs. It must be taken into account that the time period between 4th May to 28th May is normally regarded as the peak summer season in the region.

The people belonging to places such as Karur, Madurai and Trichy suffered due to extreme heat as the temperature at these places went beyond 40 degrees. It was 44.1 degree Celsius at Vellore and Tiruttani and the high temperatures made live of many difficult in these places also.

The shocking information is heat wave like conditions would be present in 13 districts of Tamil Nadu and it would be till Monday. These districts included Chennai, Vellore, Thiruvallur, Salem and Madurai. This has been confirmed by the meteorological department.

Deputy Director General of Meteorology, Chennai, Mr. S. Balachandran, gave reasons for the extreme heat that is present now. He pointed out that the cyclone Fani has completely moved away from the TN coast and it has taken away the moisture resulting in dry westerly winds in the region. He added that more sunshine was also responsible for the day temperatures to shoot up.

The important point to be noted is as the land breeze had grown stronger there is a delay in the cooling of the coastal places due to intervention of sea breeze. For few more days of time, there would be uncomfortable weather in the City of Chennai. Mr. Balachandran finally spoke about how the maximum temperature would hover around 41 degree Celsius till Sunday.
