Cyclonic storm Fani likely to intensify now says meteorological department

In the last few days we have been hearing news about the cyclonic storm Fani. The latest news now is this Fani is likely to reach around 300 km away from Chennai and change its course up north and finally move in the northeast direction. According to the meteorological department it is now revealed that Chennai city would have an overcast sky for the next 2 days. The point is the weathermen are now not sure about the impact Fani could do in Chennai city as it is moving away.

In the last 6 hours of time, the storm has moved northwards with a speed of about 7 kmph and is now about 745 km east-southeast of Tricomalee in Sri Lanka. That is 900 km southeast of Chennai (Tamil Nadu) or 1230 km south-southeast of Machilipatnam (Andhra Pradesh). In the next 12 hours of time, this storm would likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm and during the subsequent 24 hours of time it would further intensify into very severe cyclonic storm.

As per the report from the meteorological department it is now said that the storm is likely to move northwest till 1st may 2019 evening. Form then onwards it would re-curve north-northeast gradually. The direction in which it might move was unclear and this was later confirmed by a senior official belonging to the IMD. The official then spoke about how the storm would come close and go northeast. He finally was unsure about where it would make the landfall as it is too early now.

The important point to be noted is the meteorological department had not predicted rains in the Chennai city but in the next 2 days of time the skies would be cloudy. The maximum temperature would be likely around 36 degrees Celsius and minimum temperature  around 28 degree Celsius. It is important to mention here that the storm is lying on the periphery of anti-cyclonic circulation in the middle and upper tropospheric level, over south Thailand and south Andaman Sea.

It is believed now that this would direct or steer the storm northwest wards towards the TN coast but would shift its direction suddenly to northeast when it enters into an area of high tropical cyclone heat region. The information gathered is when the storm changes its direction then the temperature of Chennai might increase. There is another storm called Lorna about 1000 km away from Fani and it is said that this could have slowed down the progress of Fani.
