A 3-day conference on suicide prevention

A 3-day conference on the prevention of suicides commenced yesterday I Chennai Metro city. The conference main mission is to develop a national suicide prevention strategy.
The non-government organisation (NGO), ‘Sneha’, (Society for Nutrition, Education & Health Action) celebrates its 33rd anniversary today (Saturday, 13th April) and has a special ‘Suicide Prevention’ section. The founder of Sneha and a leading global psychiatrist, Dr Lakshmi Vijayakumar, observed that the ‘National Suicide Prevention should focus on the vulnerable, young, and women.’
The Union Health Ministry Officials will be participating in this conference on Sunday (14th April) to evolve strategies to prevent suicide. In this regard, the former West Bengal Governor, Gopalakrishna Gandhi observed that in the present lifestyle, an extraordinary value is attached to achievements (academic) which put immense pressure on young minds.
