In some parts of Chennai city, residents get muddy water now

It is now revealed that in some parts of the Chennai city residents receive muddy or turbid water through piped water supply. The news is really shocking at this point of time because the situation now is Chennai is facing severe water crisis due to absence of expected rains.

Over the fortnight there has been a dip in the supply of water. This has been confirmed by some residents belonging to Mogappair in Chennai. A resident belonging to Officers Colony Road, Mogappair spoke about how the water that is received is yellow in colour and how even after cleaning the sumps 2 times the water is still muddy. The resident added that utilizing the water even for bathing purposes is not advisable.

The water storage in the reservoirs is dismal is well known fact. This could be the reason for the increase in the turbidity level of water and the water appearing muddy. This was according to the sources belonging to Metro Water department.

It is worthy to mention that water drawn from the abandoned quarries in Sikkarayapuram is mixed with water in Chembarambakkam Lake for supply. The important information is the supply from the quarries varied between 23 mld to 30 mld and this depends on the availability and need.

On alternate days, metro water continues to maintain the supply of drinking water at 550 million litres. The news is site clearances have been obtained to draw water from the abandoned quarries belonging to Erumaiyur. It was pointed out by an official that the work to lay a pipeline to Chembarambakkam would be completed in 3 months of time and 10 mld of water would be supplied from that place.

Important information is storage in Veeranam tank in Cuddalore district has been decreasing and it is now brought out that about 20 mld of water from Neyveli mines is mixed and sent to Chennai through pipelines.
