Posted on: 23/Mar/2019 10:44:19 AM
On the occasion of World Water Day, Greenwood High International School students organized a campaign to educate their fellow mates and faculty about water conservation. The campaign emphasized on “Leaving no one behind” which was the central theme of the day for the year 2019. Adopting the theme, students at the school undertook an initiative and wore blue ribbons in order to spread awareness on water conservation.

Every year, Greenwood High International school has been rigorously working towards achieving sustenance through conservation and preservation of natural resources at its campus. The school has been constantly striving towards ensuring that not a single drop of water is left unutilized and has been following the motto “Harvest the rain and reap the gains”. Adoption of sustainable methods such as Rainwater Harvesting has helped the school in in storing almost 35,000 litres of water per day and re-using the treated water from STP for landscaping purpose, has not only resulted in reducing the burden of plastic at its campus but has also in turn made it possible for the school to maintain and run the huge campus smoothly without any water shortage. Apart from water conservation, the school has been actively recycling waste paper at the campus by collecting all the waste paper and giving it to a paper recycling unit outside our school. This paper is further recycled and converted into notebooks for underprivileged students.

Speaking about the commendable initiative taken by her students, Ms. Niru Agarwal, Trustee, Greenwood High said: “At Greenwood High International school, we believe that schools can play a greater role in tackling the rising water crisis by educating students about the various ways in which they can conserve water and can be a part of a sustainable future. Our organization is inclined towards the preservation of environment and we have been constantly working towards imbibing the values of sustainability among our students by educating them on how even simple and small steps can play a greater in maintain the ecological balance. We are glad that our students understand the need for water conservation and importance of water at such a young age. Initiatives such as these denote that the young generation is understanding its responsibility towards environment protection.”
