Power demand: Are summer rains in the offing?

Posted on: 17/Mar/2019 2:38:32 PM
Unable to meet the increasing demand for more electrical energy, TANGEDCO now looks forward to the summer seasonal rains!

Attributed to 3 major happenings – the scorching summer, +2 and 10th Standard Public Examinations, and the impending parliamentary elections - the daily demand for electricity has gone up over 15000 MW!

For the 1t time, at 7.05 PM on the 11th March, the demand for electricity increased to 15847 MW and touched a peak!

Further, the election campaigns are expected to pick up the full intensity. So, it is expected that the demand for power may beyond 17000 MW!

TANGEDCO is presently struggling to meet this additional demand as the power generation from the central power stations not at full capacity and faster exhaustion of fuel (coal).  It is a general trend to experience summer rains for a few days during the season. In case the rains happen, the demand for power is likely to reduce by 2000 to 3000 MW. Keeping this thought under strong consideration, TANGEDCO officials now are now expecting eagerly for the summer rains to come down to counter the excessive power demand!
