Some measures to protect from the harms of scorching summer

As a high temperature of over 100 Degrees Fahrenheit is prevailing at Karur though this is just the onset of summer, it is to be naturally expected that the intensity of heat may reach unbearable levels during the coming days! The Collector of Karur District has come up with the suggestion to follow a few measures:

  • As there is a definite trend of rising temperature, drink sufficient water, more frequently.
  • Wear only light cotton clothes with loose-fits.
  • Wear in cooling glasses.
  • Remember to take an umbrella when going out and ensure proper footwear.
  • The people who work under the scorching sun may better a cap, umbrella, cover the head, neck, and face with a damp cloth while working.
  • Mildly salted water, home-prepared liquid items, lemon juice, lassi, and buttermilk help to maintain the water content in the body at a reasonable level. So, it is better to take them!
  • Use damp cloths and the electric fan.
  • Take frequent baths in cold water.
  • Arrangement must be made to ensure that good and sufficient drinking water is available very near the work-place.
  • The workers must try to avoid working directly under the scorching sun.
  • Generally, avoid moving out especially from 12.00 Noon to 3.00 PM.
  • Avoid wearing tight, thick and coloured clothes!
  • When the heat is most scorching, stop doing rather tough and difficult activities.
  • Avoid drinking tea/coffee. This will tend to increase the dehydration phenomenon.
  • Avoid taking protein-rich food items.
