The event of Jyothi Darisanam in Vadalur Vallalar Sathyagnana Sabha

On the occasion of the sacred `Thaippoosam` (The day on which the star `poosam` falls on the Tamil calendar month of `Thai) `Jyothi Darisanam` was displayed at the Vadallur Sathya Gnana Sabha. Thousands of devotees participated and experienced the `Jyothi Darisanam`.

The famous Saint Ramalinga Adigalar was born in the place Marudhur, near Vadalur in the Cuddalore district.

In order to enlighten the world the fact that God exists in the shape of fire (Jyothi), Ramalinga Adigalar, known popularly as `Vallalar`, established the Sathya Gnana Sabha. He further founded `Dharma Salai, to provide food for the hungry poor and the economically weaker sections of the society. Right from the day of inception, free food distribution - `Annadhanam` - is being given till today and continues.

It is an age-old tradition to celebrate the `Taippoosam` sacred occasion in a grand manner every year at the Sathya Gnana Sabha founded by Vallalar.

On the sacred day of Thaipusam, every year, 7 screens will be removed successively and Jyothi Darshan will be displayed for 6 periods.

Accordingly, the 148th Thaippoosa Jyothi Darisnam even commenced yesterday (Monday, 20th January) with the divine flag-hoisting ceremony. The flag was hoisted 1st at Dharmaslai. Subsequently, flags were hoisted at the villages Marudhur and Karunkuzhi. Finally, the sacred flag was hoisted at the Gnana Sabhai. Today (Monday, 21st January) morning at 6.00 AM, the 1st Jothi Darisanam was displayed. Thousands of devotees participated and had the Darshan.

Subsequently, Jothi darisanam will b displayed further at 10.00 AM, 1.00 PM, 7.00 PM, 10.00 PM tonight and at 5.30 AM tomorrow (Tuesday, 22nd January).

More than 1000 police personnel have been deployed in Vadalur for security purposes. CCTV cameras have been set up for vigilant monitoring. Special buses are being operated facilitating the public.

On the occasion of the Vallalar Thaippoosa Jyothi Darisanam, a local holiday has been declared at the Cuddalore district.
