Prospects of light drizzles from tomorrow

As the last cyclone formed over the Bay of Bengal, Phethai, weakened considerably, the ocean environment has changed. The weather bureau has informed that there are prospects of light drizzles in Tamil Nadu from tomorrow (Thursday, 19th December).

Though the northeast monsoon rainy season is deemed to be in action in Tamil Nadu, the rainfall until now has been far below expectations. Especially, after 6th December, there have been no rains in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

A low-pressure format which developed on 9th December over the Bay of Bengal transformed into a cyclone on 15th December. Though this cyclone crossed the coasts via the Tamil Nadu coastal areas, there were no rains. In this situation, the cyclone Phethai crossed Andhra and weakened near Odisha. This has changed the ocean environment in the area.

In this scenario, there are prospects of a cyclonic format to develop in the upper layers of the atmosphere over the southwest and southeast part of the Bay of Bengal. So, the weather bureau has estimated that there are prospects of light drizzle from tomorrow in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. It is also expected that there are prospects of heavy rain in a few places on 22nd December.
