Posted on: 20/Oct/2018 1:04:59 PM
The Chennai Meteorological Centre has informed that there are prospects of the onset of the northeast monsoon rainy season today (Saturday, 20th October).

Even as there were symptoms for the onset of the northeast monsoon rainy season earlier, the climate was disturbed by the sudden formats of 2 cyclones – Luban over the Arabian Sea and Titli over the Bay of Bengal. As these 2 cyclones have crossed the coasts, situation has returned to the normal climate and the symptoms and the conducive environment for the onset of the northeast monsoon rainy season.

In this scenario, the Chennai Meteorological Centre has now informed that the climate is presently conducive to the onset of the northeast monsoon rainy season.

The centre further informed that there are cyclonic formats developed in the upper layers of the atmosphere over the South Andhra coastal area and over the area between the Kerala-Karnataka. The centre mentioned that this is the conducive symptom to facilitate the onset of the northeast monsoon rainy season.

There are prospects of rain in a few places in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and heavy rains in a few places due to the formation of the cyclonic effects mentioned above.

The Chennai Metro city will remain cloudy. There are prospects of intermittent rains in the city.
