To protest against the central government policy of allowing online sale of medicines, a Bharat Bandh has been called by the All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists on 28th of September 2018. It is now revealed that above 35000 pharmacists belonging to Tamil Nadu would be taking part in this bandh.

The association members would down the shutters on 28th September and this was confirmed by none other than Mr. S. Ramachandran who is the president of TN Chemists and Druggists Association. There are few issues associated with the online sale of medicines like cold storage of drugs. Delivering the medicines as per the recommended temperature of a particular drug would not be possible by e-companies. Checking the genuineness of the prescription by the e-companies is also another issue. Mr. Ramachandran threw light on the safety of the patients and said many corporate companies that would take over the business of e-pharmacies would not worry about the safety of the patients. He hinted that many retail pharmacists would lose their business if online pharmacies were allowed.

A pharmacist spoke about how in the online business no one could be held accountable when it comes to clearing the doubts of patients. He added that quality of the medicines would also be a problem in the online business of drugs.
