Rain Centre is Chennai city based organisation that is involved in the rain water harvesting. It is first of its kind in entire India. It is known that this Rain Centre usually constructs traditional wells in the households in Chennai. It is now said that this Rain centre has taken up the work of construction of recharge wells in the public places in the Chennai city. The main objective is to mitigate floods during heavy rains in Chennai.

There are many communities as well as elected representatives in certain areas in Chennai and Rain Centre has taken up building of recharge wells with the help of them. Improving groundwater table during heavy rains is possible by the recharge wells. This was confirmed by the director of the Rain Centre, Dr. Sekar Raghavan. During heavy rains the rain water gets stagnated on the roads and by the recharge wells this stagnation of rain water would not be there. With the support of the residents of Mylapore, as many as 10 recharge wells have been constructed in Mylapore locality.

It is clear that GCC must give its approval for construction of recharge wells. Once the approval is got then there would be more such wells in the city of Chennai. Recharge wells would be constructed with depth of 15 feet and with a diameter of 3 feet.

Dr. Sekar Raghavan later spoke about how the public must play their role in funding and he also said the elected representatives must provide their help in the building of recharge wells. By this the city of Chennai would be protected from getting flooded during the rains.

Former DGP and Mylapore MLA, Mr. R. Natraj expressed his opinion and spoke about how he would allot money from the constituency funds to build atleast 25 recharge wells in Mylapore. He later explained the importance of the recharge wells and spoke about the awareness on the recharge wells. He then spoke about how these wells would help in preventing floods and improve the groundwater charge. The superb piece of information is GCC would be building 100 such wells in Chennai before the onset of monsoon. GCC has begun to work on the construction of the recharge wells. The work would be completed soon and this was according to a senior official of GCC. He later spoke about how encouragement would be given to any NGO that takeS up the construction works of recharge wells.
