Prospects of heavy rain in 5 Tamil Nadu districts

The Chennai Meteorological Centre has informed that there are prospects of heavy rain in 5 Tamil Nadu districts.

With the persistent intensity of the southwest monsoon rainy season, it has been raining quite heavily in Tamil Nadu as well. Especially, the rains have been quite heavy in the districts lying adjacent the Western Ghat mountain range.

The Chennai Meteorological has informed that the heavy rains will persist today (Friday, 17th August) as well. It has warned that there are strong prospects of very heavy rains in several areas of the 5 Tamil Nadu districts of Coimbatore, Nilgiri, Theni, Dindigul, and Thirunelveli.

The Chennai Metro City will remain cloudy. There are some prospects of sudden rain as well as rain in the evening or the night sessions.

As per the last 24 hours ending t 8.30 AM today (Friday, 17th August), a maximum rainfall of 31 cm has been recorded at Valparai. The rainfall in cm recorded in other places – Nilgiri Devala – 17, Periyar – 12, Thirunelveli Papanasam – 6, Koodalur, Kuzhithurai – 5, Chingleput, Puducherry – 4, Thenkasi, Pazhani, Kulachal, Ooty, Kodaikanal, Panruti, Uthiramerur – 3, Sholinganallur -2, and Chennai -1.
