Heavy rains expected on Sunday and Monday (TN Weatherman)

Mettur inflow jumps to With the next monsoon low forming in Bay of Bengal and expected to move inland, this will trigger more rains in the Western Ghats - Cauvery catchment, Valparai & Nilgiris in next one week.

Rains continue in Kodagu with Bhagamandala getting once again 150 mm rainfall today and thus resulting in huge inflows into KRS dam and Somawarpet taluk in Kodagu is smashed too with another 100 mm rainfall so inflow into Harangi continues to be at higher side. At the same time, rains are lashing Hassan and Chikmagalur district resulting in huge inflows in Hemavathy Dam.

In Kerala Wayanad continues to get heavy rains with Pookot recording 130 mm rainfall today (5th straight 100 mm) and so Kabini dam inflow continues to be huge. Here are the massive inflows in Major Cauvery Catchment Dams

1. Mettur (TN) - Inflows @ 46600 cusecs and outflow at 1000 cusecs with storage of 41.41 tmc against full level storage of 93.47 tmc

2. Bhavnisagar (TN) - Inflows @ 11200 cusecs and outflow at 1000 cusecs with storage of 19.36 tmc against full level storage of 32.80 tmc

3. KRS (Karnataka) - Inflows @ 42000 cusecs and outflow at 3800 cusecs with storage of 46.57 tmc against full level storage of 49.45 tmc

4.Hemavathy (Karnataka) - Inflows @ 24700 cusecs and outflow at 3200 cusecs with storage of 34.58 tmc against full level storage of 37.10 tmc

5.Kabini (Karnataka) - Inflows @ 43400 cusecs and outflow at 48400 cusecs with storage of 17.92 tmc against full level storage of 19.52 tmc

6.Harangi (Karnataka) - Inflows @ 13300 cusecs and outflow at 18800 cusecs with storage of 7.72 tmc against full level storage of 8.50 tmc

With monsoon low moving inland from Bay of Bengal, its going to further strengthen the westerlies in Arabian side. Sholayar Dam is full and has a storage of 5.39 tmc of water against storage of 5.81 tmc. There is good chance for Parambikulam to overflow by this month. It has storage of 11.68 tmc against full level storage of 17.82 tmc. Amaravathy dam too will be filled up within a week if the present inflow continues. It has storage of 2.58 tmc against full level storage of 4.05 tmc with inflow of 3000 cusecs. Periyar Dam inflow too has increased to 4600 cusecs. Overall

8th day of heavy rains in the ghats. Sholyar Dam and Chinnakallar are first to cross 2000 mm and now stands at 2036 mm rainfall followed by Chinnakallar 2012 mm, Periakallar at 1923 mm and Avalanche at 1918 mm.
