The temple pond at Tirupati to be closed for a month

Maha Kumbhabhishekham is scheduled to be celebrated in the famous Tirupati temple from 12th August to 16th August. The traditional annual Brahmotsavam festival is scheduled to be celebrated from 13th September.

Subsequently, the Navarathri Brahmotsavam is scheduled to be celebrated.

Intended for the pending occasions of the 2 grans Brahmotsavams, the cleaning activities of the entire premises of the Tirupathi temple is taken up from Tuesday today (10th July). The temple pond (known as theppakkulam or ‘pushkarani’  where the celebrations are conducted)  is closed from today for a month for cleansing. Devotees will not be allowed to take bath in the pond. However, facilities for the devotees to take bath has been arranged by way of taps being provided on the backside of the pond,

In his situation, arrangements have been made to pump out the water from the pond. After this, the repair work of the stairs to the pond will be taken up along with painting.

It is a tradition to perform ‘Pushkarani Aarathi’ daily in the Tirupathi temple. The temple authorities have informed that as the pushkarani (pond) is being closed today, the event of pushkarani aarathi performed daily is being stopped till the pond is restored after the maintenance/renovation work.
