20% Questions on creative thinking for plus 1 and plus 2 board exams in TN

It is known that the students in Tamil Nadu state board schools just memorize and reproduce the answers in the plus one and plus two board examinations. This rote learning in the state board schools would not be there in the future.

The news that has come out is DGE or Directorate of Government Examinations had informed all the schools that the forthcoming plus 1 and plus 2 board examinations would have 20 percent questions based on creative thinking and higher order thinking skills. Board examination question papers have knowledge and understanding based questions with the exception of one or two application based questions and this is in the present pattern. Several changes have been incorporated to prepare the students so that they would be able to face new and tougher challenges.

It is now revealed that in the current academic year, plus 1 and plus 2 board examinations would have 20 percent of questions based on creative as well as higher order thinking skills. This was stated in the circular issued by DGE recently. The circular also highlighted that the teachers must prepare the students mentally to read the whole book and not just read the just few selected lessons to perform well in the board examinations. The directorate has played its part in this by abolishing the blueprint in the class 10 and plus 1 board examinations though the plus 2 examination was conducted on the blueprint.

DGE had pointed out that the directorate received many requests from teacher associations, teachers plus from many parents for awarding grace marks in the plus 2 board examinations. This inspite of the fact that plus 2 board examinations were conducted as per the blueprint.

The circular also threw light about the performances of the plus 1 students who secured good marks despite not having any blueprint. The need for the students to study the entire book to get good marks was stressed by the circular. In the first week of July, the schools in TN would get the model question paper for the plus 2 board examinations.  One important point to be noted is to get full marks in the multiple choice section the students must write the question number along with their answers and this is for the students appearing for the board exams. Though it would be difficult for teachers and students in the initial stages because of no creative based questions asked in board exams it would do wonders for the student future. This was confirmed by the headmaster of Thiru. Vi. Ka Higher Secondary School in Chennai.

CBSE is doing superbly in preparing the students to face tougher challenges by asking 10 to 20 % questions of creative as well as higher order thinking skills is known.
