T. Nagar is a very busy locality in Chennai and people find it difficult to commute here and also unsafe. Hereafter the pedestrians commuting through busy T. Nagar need not worry about their safety. The superb piece of news is after nearly 5 years the work for pedestrian plaza has begun now.

On Monday, 7th May 2018, minister for municipal administration Mr. S.P. Velumani grabbed the attention of many when he laid the ceremonial foundation stone for this superb project.

The construction would be undertaken in 3 phases so that the quality of work is good plus minimum traffic disruption would be there. This pedestrian plaza work would be done at a cost of Rs 33 crores and would be completed in another one year. The senior citizens plus kids and differently abled people would be highly benefited by this work in T. Nagar.

According to Chennai corporation it is now confirmed that up-gradation of 1675 metres between Panagal Park and Anna Salai would be done. Only MTC buses and two wheelers would be allowed to go between Panagal Park and Thanikachalam Road junction once the pedestrian plaza is set. It is important to mention that the carriageway space between Panagal Park and Thanikachalam Road would be reduced to 3.5m on both sides and the pedestrian walkway would be 10 to 12m in width.

Lack of funds was the reason why the pedestrian plaza construction was delayed. Now with the help of smart city funds the civic body has converted many old projects to smart city projects.
