Summer season and power cuts go hand in hand is known. We are in the month of April and peak summer hasn’t come yet. On Sunday 1st of April there was 9 hours of power cut in the southern suburbs in Chennai during the night time.

The reason was because of electricity supply to Thillai Ganga Nagar substation was snapped as two transmission lines were damaged simultaneously.  This power cut made the residents very angry and they protested on the Inner Ring Road and created some problems.

The places such as Adambakkam, Thillai Ganga Nagar etc were badly affected by this power cut on Sunday night. It is well known that this during the summer season Thillai Ganga Power sub- station has got enough capacity to take on the power load. The lines that bring power to this substation sagged and resulted in 9 hours of power cut in the above said places.

The latest news that has come out now is this substation would get a third power source soon and power cut issues would not be there.

According to a senior Tangedco distribution official it is now clear that all the major substations in and around Chennai has got an alternative power source apart from the regular sources. In the coming months this substation in Thillai Ganga Nagar too would get a third power source.

It is important to note that Guindy and Pallavaram substations are two sources of power supply to this Thillai Ganga Nagar substation and these 2 power sources were affected at around the same time at 9 pm on 1st of April.

This official spoke about how it took four hours time for the workers to find the place where the transmission line had sagged. He also explained what the actual problem was and why the power was cut for 9 hours.
