Onion Pakoda Recipe

Onion pakodas are the most favourite snack item which can be made quite easily in a jiffy in 10 or 15 minutes, especially when guests turn up suddenly.

It is a general practice while the South Indians make the onion pakodas to add both basin and rice flour. However, in other foreign countries, they cut the onions in circles, dip in a paste made of maida and soda-water and then fry. This is also equally tasty. Onion pakodas go nicely well with tea session.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of onion (cut and sliced into thin long pieces)
  • Finely chopped green chillies – 2
  • Asafoetida – Ό teaspoon
  • Chilli powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Salt – to taste
  • Basin (split gram powder) – 1 cup
  • Rice flour – 1 cup
  • Baking soda – 1 pinch
  • Finely chopped curry leaves – half-handful
  • Oil – to fry
The Recipe:

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl without water to form a uniform mixture. The water released by the onion would be enough to make the batter. If required, a little amount of water may be added. Make small pieces using the fingers, Fry deep in the hot oil.

Onion pakodas are ready – Enjoy with tea.

2nd Recipe - Crispy onion rings:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of onions cut into circular pieces
  • Maida (all-purpose flour) – 1 cup
  • Soda water – as required
  • Salt – to taste
  • Pepper powder – Ό teaspoon
  • Oil – to fry
Recipe:

Take all the ingredients except the maida and the oil in a bowl and make a uniform mix and paste. Dip the cut onion rings in this paste and deep fry. Crispy tasty onion rings are ready – enjoy with tomato sauce.
