Be it any traditional occasion or celebration, Sakkarai Pongal and Medhu Vadai are prepared as offerings to the shrine at Hindu households. It is a delicious, lip-smacking gourmet that children love too. Check out the preparation method and required ingredients below:
Required Ingredients:
· Raw rice – ¾ cup
· Moong Dal – 3 tablespoons
· Jaggery – 1 cup (this has to be reduced to ¾ cup)
· Cashew nuts – 10 Nos
· Raisins – few
· Cardamom powder – a pinch
· Ghee – 3 to 4 tablespoons
· Milk – ¼ cup
Procedure:
Step 1 – rinse the rice and moong dal and soak for about half an hour
Step 2 – pressure cook both rice and dal together in a cooker
Step 3 – take a pan and add a tablespoon of ghee. Fry cashew nuts and raisins until they turn golden brown, and keep it aside
Step 4 – Take a pan and add jaggery to it. Add a few tablespoons of water. Keep stirring intermittently. Once it gets melted fully, filter out the impurities present
Step 5 – open the pressure cooker and smash the content. To this, add boiled milk
Step 6 – Add the rice mixture to the jaggery syrup. Mix thoroughly to form a fine mixture without any lumps
Step 7 – now, turn down the flame and allow the mixture to get coked
Step 8 - add ghee and cardamom powder and mix well
Step 9 – at last, add the fried cashews and raisins and serve hot!
