What to buy?
It is advisable to buy sacred and good items on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya which will ensure prosperity for the coming years in the family.
There is a mythical tradition that people buy salt when auctioned in the temples which will bring in more wealth. On a similar basis, it is better for the people to buy other items apart from gold, jewellery, and dresses such as salt, grains, grocery items, vessel to prepare rice, yellow coloured dress material, pictures of gods, fruits, the collection of items presented on good occasions (seer varisai), pooja items, earthen lamp (small), bronze bell, pen, picture of Goddess Lakshmi, stove, money-box, money purse, sugar, jaggery, gooseberry, turmeric, vermillion, etc.
One can perform special offerings to the ancestors and feed bananas to the cow. The myth says that all the gods and goddesses are present in the cow.
Help the poor in whatever possible ways. This will ensure that prosperity will come to your house and family. So, especially the people without money to buy costly items can at least buy items like salt. They can feed the poor.
