UN Warning: Though El Nino phenomenon is weakening, its harms will continue

The very hot summer experienced last year, drought, and unprecedented rains, floods, and large scale jungle fires were all caused as effects of the El Nino phenomenon.
Though all these effects might have considerably weakened the El Nino effect, UN has warned that the harmful effects of El Nino are likely to continue.
However, the World Weather Research Centre informs that El Nino, which caused severe harms in world weather conditions, continues to be quite powerful. It indicates that the effect of El Nino is more directly and quite strongly felt in the societies in South Africa & Central Africa.
The phenomenon of El Nino once in a few years and indicates the temperature changes of the planet earth.
The temperature changes measured on the surface of the world`s largest & deepest ocean, the Pacific Ocean gives an idea of the intensity of El Nino. Among the ill effects of El Nino is one area may suffer from excess heavy rains whereas another area may suffer from severe drought conditions.
El Nino causes great changes in the weather conditions across the world from South America to Africa, and India, Indonesia, & Australia.
UN`s World Food Plan Centre has warned that over 10 Crore people will encounter severe food and water shortage due to El Nino.
Though the effects of El Nino in the year 1997-98 can be compared with the year 2015-16, the World Weather Centre reports that the power & intensity of El Nino cannot be accurately determined.
The New Chief General secretary of the World Weather Centre, Mr. Pettery Talas informed that though it can be assumed that El Nino has somewhat weakened as per World Weather Centre report, it has still got the capacity to cause serious harms to the human economy and society.Its effect may continue in the next few months.
Some part of South Africa & East Africa is still recovering from the heavy rains and floods. The economic changes due to drought conditions are now openly observed in south Africa, Horn of Africa, Central America and a few other countries.
It is worth mentioning here that UN has clearly indicated the heavy unprecedented rains and flood during November/December last year in Tamil Nadu was because of El Nino effect.
Chennai Metro city, the capital of the state of Tamil Nadu, received rains higher than the average recorded for the state. Generally, during Northeast Monsoon season, Chennai city receives 79 cm of rains. However, during the year 2015, the rainfall recorded during Northeast monsoon is more than 150 cm.
On 1st December, the city experienced a rainfall of 49 cm which was not seen in the last 100 years. On 4th December, the rainfall was 40 cm.These are the effects of El Nino.
In the meanwhile, UN has come with another announcement that El Nino might disappear during the 2nd quarter of 2016.
