Virtual Reality Therapy – what is it all about?

Posted on: 15/May/2014 5:13:58 PM
Magnificent animations found on LCD screens and joysticks were only playthings for children in earlier days. But the case is now upside-down. Such ingredients of internet are now being used as integral tools for neurologists for providing Virtual Reality Therapy (VRT) for patients with neurological troubles.

Navin Singh aged 27 is evident of the beneficial effects of VRT who lost his right hand mobility in a road accident. He is now able to perform every job he could possibly do with his original hand, but now with the robotic arm fixed on him. People suffering from cerebral palsy, stroke and other traumatic brain injuries can be benefited with this therapy.

Speaking to Dr. Akhilesh Anand Prakash who practices VRT at Apollo Hospitals states this therapy is an attempt to help patients with spinal injuries and those who regularly need physiotherapy sessions. He added that the therapy is a helpful in building interaction between man and machine. This in turn rebuilds reflexes and movements lost by the patient.
