In approximately 52 months of time, L & T would be completing the work of a 12km underground stretch from Kellys to Taramani Road junction. Information is that tenders are being finalised for the third and fourth corridor of CMRL. A spokesperson mentioned that both these tenders were worth Rs 2500 crores and Rs 5000 crores.

It must be noted that the tender to construct 12km twin bored tunnels from Kellys to Taramani Road Junction also involves the construction of diaphragm walls of station box and entry/ exit structures of Chetpet metro, Royapettah government hospital, Thiruvanmiyur metro stations and part diaphragm wall of Greenways Road metro station.

Point to be taken into note is that the underground metro train’s tunnel package is a part of corridor-2 of CMRL phase-2 metro rail project. It is superb to mention here that this company L&T has bagged an order to build approximately 8km elevated viaduct with 9 elevated metro stations from Power House to Porur Junction with 4km of double deck construction also in that.

Information is that the elevated metro rail package is a part of corridor 4 of CMRL Phase-2 metro rail project. It must be noted that CMRL has previously awarded Rs 1147 crore contract project of construction of elevated viaduct section of 7.95km and 9 elevated stations on Corridor 2 of phase-2 to a joint venture between HCC and KEC. Now, the popular company L`& T bagging the order to build 8km of elevated viaduct has come at this point of time.
