Counselling for medical graduate courses - 381 seats filled in government medical colleges!

The counselling for admission to the graduate medical courses (MBBS & BDS) which were in progress was postponed due to the cyclone Nivar. The counselling resumed on Monday, 30th November. During this counselling session, 381 students preferred seats in government medical colleges.

The counselling for admission to the graduate medical courses MBBS & BDS for the current academic year (2020-21) commenced in the Nehru Sports Stadium in the Chennai Metro City on 18th November.  On that day, the seats for the 7.5% quota for the students of the government high schools were filled and counselling for the candidates under special cadre were conducted.

The counselling for the common or general cadre commenced on 23rd November. However, due to the onset of the cyclone Nivar, the Indian Medical Council announced the postponement of the counselling session. As such, the counselling was not conducted for the last 6 days.  In this situation, the counselling recommenced yesterday (Monday, 30th November).

390 candidates have been called for counselling on this day. |Out of this, 382 candidates attended the counselling session and out of this, 381 candidates preferred the seats in government medical colleges and got the admission letter accordingly. The remaining 1 candidate is kept in the waiting list.

Presently, 2058 MBBS seats are still available in the government medical colleges and 1060 more seats are available on the government quota for the seats in private medical colleges. There are 151 seats available for admission to BDS course in government colleges and an additional 985 seats are available in the government quota for BDS course in private colleges. The common counselling for the candidates of general cadre is scheduled to be conducted until 10th December.
