The common syllabus of the students studying in the Arts and Sciences colleges in Tamil Nadu would be revamped soon!!

The government of TN has already revamped the engineering and polytechnic courses and soon it would be revamping the arts and sciences course too. For the vocational courses, a new syllabus has been introduced is known. There have been many suggestions from the academicians that the current syllabus at Arts and Sciences colleges were outdated and not oriented to industry etc.

For many years for both the Arts and Science courses, the syllabus was not changed and the students who have pursued these courses have been finding it difficult to get job opportunities. This was according to a senior office from the Higher Education Department. He then explained that the gross enrolment ratio in TN has gone up by 51.4% as against the national average of 27.1%.

It is true that the gap between the students seeking employment and available job opportunities have become more since the syllabus has become outdated. To revamp the syllabus for Arts and Sciences courses at the colleges in TN, a high level committee of educationists and experts have been formed. In the first phase, the syllabus for the first and second year students would be revamped.

For getting further feedback from the educationists and the public, a draft syllabus would be released. The draft syllabus would be altered further after taking into account genuine feedback and a final report would be submitted to the TN government. The superb piece of information is that after revamping the syllabus for the final year students there would be more job opportunities available. The practicals in the Science streams would be given more importance. Permission has been to start 10 new Arts and Sciences colleges in various districts in TN at a cost of Rs 25 crores.
