For conducting class 12 board exams in TN - Govt sends proposals like online tests, shorter versions of exams etc to Centre

Parents, students would have to wait for some more time to know exactly about the class 12 board examinations in TN!!

The news now is that the government of TN had sent its proposal to the Union government regarding the conduct of class 12 board examinations. Recently, a virtual meeting took place between Mr. Ramesh Pokhriyal, Union minister for education and all the state education ministers. The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss various options before the government regarding conduct of class 12 board exams. Point is that the Union minister for education asked the states as well as UT to send their suggestions by the end of the week.

It was brought out by a senior officer belonging to the school education department that after DMK party came to power in TN the school education minister Mr. Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi held talks with the concerned authorities and health officials in this regard to assess the situation and to explore various options for conducting board exams. There were many ideas shared in the meeting and all these have been compiled ahead of the Union minster’s meeting.

Information collected is that the Union minister had asked all the states to send the options to him either through email or as a circular form. This was also completed. It has been brought out that there was a proposal to conduct exams for just main subjects.

The senior officer later explained about how for the science stream students Physics, Maths and Chemistry and either Biology or Computer Science exams would only be conducted. In the same manner, for the Commerce stream students Commerce, Accountancy, Economics and Business Mathematics exams might be conducted. He was elucidating on some of the suggestions of the state. Other suggestions included giving a big gap like one week between the exams.  There were also suggestions about conducting board exams in the month of September plus conducting online examinations etc.

Only after all the states have completed class12 board examinations, admissions for the fresher’s in various higher educational institutions or HEIs should start uniformly across India. This has been requested by the state to Centre.
