In T. Nagar, safety norms not followed

Posted on: 20/Oct/2020 9:16:43 AM
One of the busiest places in Chennai is T. Nagar. This place has got many commercial buildings as well residential houses.

There are many who live in the by lanes of Usman Road in T. Nagar and they are having fears that overcrowding could result in the spike in the Covid-19 cases. Truth is that the festival of deepavali is fast approaching and residents belonging to Motilal Street here and by lanes of Usman Road are worried that the already busy area would be inducted with shoppers.

Haphazard parking of the vehicles have led to space reduction and the residents want GCC to regulate parking. The residents fear that a huge rush could lead to an increase in the cases.

It is worthy to mention that more than 1000 families have been living on Natesan Street, Ramanathan Street, Rangan Street, Mangesh Street, Pinjala Subramaniam Street, Venkatesan Street, Motilal Street and Mahalakshmi Street etc.

The presence of too many vehicles on the roads plus two wheelers whizzing past constantly have restricted many elderly residents from coming out of their homes. This was according to Mr. Jayaraman, member of T. Nagar Welfare Association. The parking space for the shoppers was not available due to the presence of many commercial establishments.

It was mentioned by a resident that bike parking was an issue as bikes get parked on both the sides of the roads resulting in the space reduction of the 30feet road. Parking of shoppers vehicles in front of the apartment gates has resulted in issues. The residents were not able to take their vehicles out. This issue worsens during deepavali or during other festival times.

According to Mr. Kannan, secretary, T. Nagar Welfare Association, it was clear that even the road pavements were full. He added that the pedestrians have left without any place to move freely.
