Otherwise known as colorectal cancer, colon cancer is one of the most commonly occurring cancers these days. In the earlier stages, colorectal cancer or colon cancer would not show any symptoms and only when it has spread in a person the symptoms would be visible. It is important to get screened for colon-rectal cancer especially if the person has got family history.

Persistent change in the bowel habits:
Some persons might have constipation or diarrhoea for more than a week. This might indicate the presence of large colon polyp in them. This might further develop into cancer on the inside lining of the colon. So, please be careful.

Abdominal discomfort:
Sometimes, after eating we might get stomach pain or gas. It is said that if this pain is persistent and severe then it is serious. Truth is many colon cancer patients get bloating and discomfort after eating.

Blood in the stools:
This is also one sign that might indicate the presence of colon cancer. The presence of low red blood cell count in the early stages of colon cancer is shown by the bright red blood in the stools.

Feeling that bowel doesn’t empty completely:
Colon cancer is also shown by the feeling that the need to empty the bowels isn’t relieved by actually going. Persons might take longer time to pass their stools.

Fatigue or weakness:
Fatigue and weakness could be caused by the internal bleeding caused by the polyps. It is believed that cancer related fatigue is one of the important signs of colorectal cancer.

Unexplained weight loss:
The fact is the presence of polyps could come in the way the body metabolises the food. This could lead to unexpected and unexplained weight loss. This is an important sign of colorectal or colon cancer. The digestion gets interfered by the blockages in the colon leading to less food intake.
