Old Footbridge at Guindy Railway Station Demolished

Posted on: 07/Jun/2023 1:11:55 PM
The outdated foot overbridge at Guindy railway station is currently being replaced with a new and wider pedestrian bridge. The original footbridge, constructed during the British era, was only 3 meters wide, causing congestion and safety concerns due to the increased passenger traffic and station expansions.

The challenging task of demolishing the old bridge and constructing a new one began by gradually removing the lower-level ticket counter and relocating it to the upper floor, connecting it to the new foot overbridge. The new flyover serves as a link between Guindy Railway Station and the nearby Metro Rail Station, providing a convenient pathway for pedestrians.

The improved foot overbridge, designed with a width of 12 meters, ensures safer and more efficient passage for passengers. The new bridge has been constructed with additional pillars to enhance stability and safety measures. Railway officials have estimated that the debris from the demolished structures will be cleared within 30 days.

With the completion of the new foot overbridge, commuters can easily access all platforms at the Suburban Railway Station, the Metro Rail Station, and navigate the nearby Race Course Road and GST Road without any inconvenience.
