Puzhal Lake Reaches Full Capacity, Boosting Drinking Water Supply for Chennai
One of the main drinking water sources for Chennai, Puzhal Lake, has reached its full storage capacity, bringing much-needed relief to the city’s water supply situation.
The lake, which has a total capacity of 3,300 million cubic feet (mcft), is now completely filled with 3,300 mcft of water. The maximum water level of 21.2 feet has also been fully reached, confirming that the reservoir is now at brim level.
Inflow Increases Significantly
Water inflow into Puzhal Lake has shown a steady rise. While the inflow stood at 470 cubic feet per second (cusecs) yesterday, it has increased to 640 cusecs today, indicating continuous water replenishment due to recent rainfall.
This development is expected to strengthen Chennai’s drinking water supply in the coming weeks and reduce dependence on alternate water sources.
