When will the beautification of Buckingham Canal project in Chennai be completed?

By February 2022, the Buckingham Canal beautification project being done below the elevated track of MRTS would be completed. It would be opened for the public use from the first week of March.

There has been a delay in the beautification project (Started in June 2021) due to the Coronavirus pandemic and it was supposed to get over in 6 months of time.  

It is now said that a makeover to Buckingham Canal would be there and many visitors would be attracted once the project gets completed. This Rs 20 crore project is being developed under the MRTS railway line from Thiruvanmiyur to Kasturba railway station. It was mentioned by Chennai corporation commissioner Mr. Gagandeep Singh Bedi that the beautification project has been speeded up inspite of GCC fighting the third Coronavirus infection wave.

Traveling on the Rajiv Gandhi Salai would become a pleasant experience in the future and the 2.1km project is being executed in 2 phases. The project would involve Miyawaki forest set up plus installation of bright streetlights, wall paintings etc. It has been revealed that the civic body is planning to have more such stretches in the coming years. This beautification project is being funded by TURIP and it would have a dedicated cycle track, kids play area etc.
