TN Chief Minister inaugurates the services of 500 new buses

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E. Palanisamy inaugurated the services of 500 additional buses for the various transport corporations of the state.

Air-conditioned buses have been introduced to operate from Chennai to Thiruvannamalai and Vellore.

The Chief Minister flagged off the buses from the Chief Secretariat, Chennai. The Chief Minister entered the new buses and surveyed the facilities. The Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, the state minister Vijayabhaskar and the Secretary of the Transport Department Radhakrishnan participated on this occasion.

The most noteworthy item of today`s inauguration was the commencement of air-conditioned buses from Chennai to Thiruvannamalai and Vellore.  The buses which leave the secretariat will reach Koyambedu and will depart for Thiruvannamalai and Vellore. It is informed that the travel would be free without any fare only for the very 1st trip from Chennai (Koyambedu) to Thiruvannamalai and Vellore.

In these new air-conditioned buses, instead of the previous arrangements in air-conditioned buses where only 2-seats on either side was available, in these new buses, 3 seats on 1 side and 2-seats on the other are available. Other special features include pushback seats, mike and 6-speaker sets for announcements, the facility to adjust the air-conditioning level as per the passengers requirement, and LED lamps, Other modern special features including the cell-phone charging facility in all the seats, air-outlet, emergency exit, facility to operate the automatic-doors with remote control, a warning system which identifies if an object is in the way while backing the vehicle.

A total of 500 new buses were inaugurated with the allotments as below:

Chennai -8, Villupuram Division of Tamil Nadu Arasu Transport Corporation 198, Salem Division 134,  Kumbakonam Division 160.

It is worth noting that from July last year until this date, 2316 new buses worth Rs. 603 Crores have been dedicated to public service.
