The barriers put up for the Chennai Metro Rail construction work in the section between DMS and the Little Mount are being removed and the road relaying work is in progress in full swing.

The Metro Rail officials informed that full normalcy of the traffic will be restored in a months time.

The 1st Phase of the Chennai Metro Rail Project consists of 2 corridors covering a total distance of 45 km and the work is in rapid progress.

As the Russian company which was given the contract for taking up the work between Saidapet and May Day Park could not progress work according to the schedule, the contract was cancelled. Subsequently, the work came to a standstill for a period of 1 year. This led to a great hardship to the vehicle drivers and the public who suffered from severe traffic jams. After a gap, another company was chosen to resume the project work and now the balance work is in rapid progress.

When enquiring with the Chennai Metro Rail officials, they explained:

As the construction work in the section between DMS and the Little Mount has been completed, the barriers erected have now been removed and the road relaying work is in progress. All the pending activities will be completed in a months time. So, the traffic congestion experienced by the vehicle drivers and the public will now reduce gradually and normalcy will be restored. Naturally, this news has delighted both the vehicle drivers and the public as they can now travel with the reduced traffic congestion.
