Residents in and around St Thomas Mount could feel delighted by this news!!
The sensational piece of news is that in the future St Thomas Mount or Parangimalai railway station would become a connecting terminal/ link just similar to the Chennai Central railway station.
It is known to us that Chennai Central railway station is a connecting link for express trains, MRTS, Tambaram route trains, metro trains, etc. In April, the work on extension of MRTS till Adambakkam would be completed.
Parangimalai railway station is located on the ground level on the Chennai Beach-Chengalpattu route is known. At present, a MRTS railway station is being constructed from St Thomas Mount and Beach at the first floor. It must be noted that the metro train project from Chennai Central to St Thomas Mount is going to be built and it would be on the second floor..
The second phase of Madhavaram- Sholinganallur metro rail project would connect St Thomas Mount railway station.It is worth mentioning here that once when the 475m rail line between Adambakkam and St Thomas Mount stations gets completed the passengers would find it easier to travel to and fro through MRTS from Chengalpet, Guduvanchery and Maraimalai Nagar etc to localities like Velachery, adyar, Mylapore and Taramani etc.
Point is that the southern railways are increasing the infrastructure at St Thomas Mount railway station to handle 10000 passengers a day. It is noteworthy that a 12m wide foot bridge is constructed from the south entrance of the railway station in the eastern side for an easy access of the passengers to the five platforms present in the of the integrated flyover and metro stations. There are 5 escalators that have been installed near the platforms, main entrance and metro station buildings etc.
