Chennai Metro Water Revises Tanker Water Rates After Six Years
The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) has increased the price of drinking water supplied through tanker lorries for both residential and commercial consumers. The revision comes after six years, citing higher production and tanker rental costs.
Revised Residential Rates
- 6,000-litre tanker: Increased from ₹475 to ₹550
- 9,000-litre tanker: Increased from ₹700 to ₹825

Revised Commercial Rates
- 6,000-litre tanker: Increased from ₹735 to ₹1,025
- 9,000-litre tanker: Increased from ₹1,050 to ₹1,535

CMWSSB supplies 106 crore litres of drinking water daily through pipelines, while around 1,000 tankers deliver additional water across the city. The revision is expected to impact households and commercial establishments that rely heavily on tanker water.
