Heavy persistent downpour in Chennai! Order to remove stagnant water on the spot!

With the persistent heavy downpour since yesterday night, the normal day routine-life has been greatly affected for the public!

Greater Chennai Corporation and Chennai Metro Water personnel are fully engaged in removing stagnant rainwater on the spot!

Row-pressure zone developed in the upper layers of the atmosphere over the Bay of Bengal has transformed into a strong depression zone

Indian Meteorological Department has informed that this depression zone will cross the coast between the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coastal areas tomorrow (Saturday, 12th November)

As such, there are prospects for widespread mild to medium rain with lightning and thunder throughout Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal today (Friday, 11th November) and tomorrow (Saturday, 12th November).

There are prospects for very heavy rains today (Friday, 11th November)in Thiruvallur, Ranippettai, and Kanchipuram districts. As such, a `Red Alert has been issued to these districts. A `Red Alert` has been issued to Northern Coastal Tamil Nadu.

Heavy rains till early morning:

It rained very heavily intermittently throughout the night till early morning in Chennai Metro City and its suburban areas!

With an alert issued to Chennai Metro City today (Friday, 11th November) it rained very heavily in the suburban areas! It rained very heavily in city areas including Nungambakkam, Egmore, Saidapet, Adyar, Mylapore, Thiruvanmiyur, Vyasarpadi, and Purasawalkam.

Due to the heavy rains, a holiday has been declared for all schools and colleges today (Friday, 11th December).

Greater Chennai Corporation and Chennai Metro Water Department personnel are deployed to remove the stagnant rainwater on the spot!


Complaints have been received that there are stagnant rainwaters in 96 places in Chennai Metro City, Drain Water overflow in 5 places, trees have fallen in 9 places, and streetlights are not functioning in 108 places!

Further, complaints have been received from 231 locations and complaints have been attended in 31 locations! Eater Chennai Corporation has informed us that repair work is in progress at the remaining locations!

Another interesting and redeeming news is received that the usual places where rainwater stagnates T Nagar G N Chetty Road,  Bazullah Road, Valluvar Kottam, and d the North Chennai localities of Vyasarpadi,  Jeeva Subway, Puliyanthoppu Highway, Perambur Barracks Road, and Stevenson Road there is no water stagnation!
