As per RMC, till 18th of May, there would be heavy rains in as many as 17 districts belonging to Tamil Nadu.

Isolated pockets of the Nil;gris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Theni, Tenkasi, Erode, Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Trichy, Dharmapuri, Kallakurichi, Perambalur, Thirupathur and Thiruvannamalai etc would receive heavy rains.

There are chances for further advance of the south west monsoon into some more parts of south Bay of Bengal, entire Andaman Sea and some parts of east Bay of Bengal in the next few days due to favourable conditions. This was as per the meteorological department prediction.

It is noteworthy that the current rainfall has been due to the cyclonic circulations over Lakshadweep area in the middle tropospheric levels and another cyclonic circulation over the north TN coast in the lower tropospheric levels. By 27th May, the southwest monsoon would be expected to reach Kerala. It is known that the normal onset of SW monsoon would be on 1st June.

For the next 3 days, Chennai and its suburbs would have pleasant weather conditions with overcast skies. The temperatures would be below the normal in the Chennai city. There might be thunderstorms with light rains in some localities in Chennai and this was according to the IMD prediction. Maximum and minimum temperatures in Chennai would be around 36 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius respectively.

On Monday, Chennai did not receive rains because rainclouds over west suburbs of Chennai were blocked by the UAC or upper air circulation from moving over core places. On Tuesday, the UAC would move into the land over the state of Kerala. According to the weather blogger Mr. Pradeep John, there are chances of rains till 19th of May and this would be due to wind convergence.

Chief meteorologist of Skymet weather Mr. Mahesh Palawat mentioned that interior places in TN would get rains due to the upper air circulation over north Kerala and south Karnataka. He added that the Chennai city might not get rains. This could continue in the coming days also. He concluded that there would be onset of SW monsoon over Kerala by 1st June.
