The RMC or Regional Meteorological Centre yesterday mentioned that for the next 3 days Chennai would have a cold climate. The cold northerly winds were cited as the reason for the cold weather in Chennai. The temperature would increase later on.

According to Dr. S. Balachandran, deputy director general of Meteorology, RMC, Chennai, south easterly winds were received in Chennai before and now they have changed to northerly winds. The cloudless condition in the nights has been leading to mist or fog in the early mornings here. He added that it would be there for another 3 days and the maximum and minimum temperatures would go down.

It is worthy to note that in the monsoon Chennai received excess rainfall and at day time there would be sunshine that would let out moisture from the ground. The temperature would increase slowly after 3 days as there would be wind pattern changes.

Yesterday, the maximum temperatures recorded in Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam respectively were 30.2 degrees Celsius and 30.5 degrees Celsius. For the next 2 days, coastal places in TN would have cool night temperatures due to the dry land winds. The night time temperatures might stay slightly below 20 degrees Celsius in the western suburbs of Chennai. This was according to a weather blogger. In the next 2 days, interior districts belonging to Tamil Nadu would receive light to moderate rains and this would be due to lower atmospheric air circulation prevailing from south Kerala to north Uttar Pradesh. Till 5th February, dry weather would be there in the rest of Tamil Nadu.
