ORANGE ALERT issued now in TN - Very heavy rains in Chennai till 28th November!!

In the next 24 hours, a low pressure area is likely to form over Bay of Bengal and there would be very heavy rains in Tamil Nadu till 28th of November. An orange alert has been issued now. This was according to the Regional Meteorological Centre or RMC in Chennai.

According to Mr. N. Puviarasan, director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, the low pressure area was to form on Wednesday itself but there was no development in the circulation. He pointed out that the cyclonic circulation in the south Bay of Bengal extends up to 4.8km above the mean sea level now.   In the next 24 hours, a low pressure area is likely to form. In the coming days, the low pressure is likely to move further west northwest towards the coast of Tamil Nadu.

It is now brought out that districts like Ramanathapuram and Pudukottai would receive heavy to very heavy rains on Thursday. Mr, Puviarasan threw light on how several districts like Chennai, Chengalpet, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Kanniyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Virudhunagar, Sivaganga etc might receive heavy rains with thunderstorms etc in the next 48 hours.

As per the weathermen it was clear that Chennai would receive heavy to very heavy rains on the weekend. There would be heavy to very heavy rains on 27th and 28th November in districts like Chennai, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Tiruvannamalai, Ranipet, Tirupathur etc.

Heavy rains with thunderstorms would be there in certain districts like Salem, Kanniyakumari, Thoothukudi, The Nilgiris, Coimbatore, delta districts and Puducherry etc.

Till Sunday, the fishermen must not venture into the sea and a warning has been given regarding this by the RMC. It is learnt that cyclonic storms of speeds of 40kmph to 50kmph would be there over Kanniyakumari Coast, south west Bay of Bengal, south Tamil Nadu Coast and south Andhra Pradesh.
