After the SW or south-west monsoon withdrew recently, the NE or north-east monsoons have set in now in Tamil Nadu. This was brought to light by RMC. It is learnt that the state of TN had received above average rainfall in the SW monsoon season.

On Monday, the SW monsoon has withdrawn from the entire country and due to this there has been a significant reduction in the rainfall activity in most parts of India. This was pointed out by the regional meteorological department. In the lower tropospheric levels, the NE winds have set in now. This has led to the commencement of NE monsoons over Tamil Nadu.  Puducherry and  Karaikal areas plus in the adjoining areas of coastal AP, Yanam, Rayalaseema, south interior Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe.

As per Mr. K. Balachandran, deputy director general of meteorology, on Sunday, many places across Tamil Nadu had received heavy rains and Pullipatti in Madurai recorded the highest rainfall of 11cms. Pudukottai received 10cms of rainfall yesterday. In the southern districts belonging to TN, heavy rains have been predicted. For the next 2 days, southern districts would receive heavy rains and this was mentioned by the regional meteorological department.

At several places such as Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, Pudukottai, Tirupur, Salem Karur, Kanniyakumari, Tenkasi and Thiruvarur districts, there would be thunderstorms with heavy rainfall. Over the south-east Bay of Bengal, a low pressure is likely to form and strengthen westwards around 28th October. There would be widespread rainfall in Tamil Nadu.
