Many parts of the Chennai city had water logging on Sunday due to the sudden rains. It is learnt that the core places plus southern suburbs received heavy rains.

The cyclonic circulation system has built up in the region and due to this there would be moderate rains in Chennai on Monday also. In some places belonging to Chennai, there were short spells of intense rains yesterday and this system was responsible for that.

The sky would be generally cloudy on Monday and there would be light to moderate rains in some places. Information is that the maximum temperature will be around 34 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature would be around 26 degree Celsius.

In the coming days, there would be more chances of rains and this could be due to the possibility of low pressure that would be forming over the Bay of Bengal. Chennai would receive light to moderate rains until the formation of low pressure and this would be because of the monsoon season. This was mentioned by an official belonging to the meteorological department. He added that the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon would be causing changes in the weather conditions.

Yesterday, Anna University received 19mm of rain and other places like Taramani received 34mm, Nandanam received 18.5mm, MRC Nagar received 8.5mm of rain.

Information collected is that localities like Royapettah, Triplicane, Chepauk, Saidapet, Adyar and T. Nagar etc received copious rains yesterday. According to a weather blogger, as against the normal of 351mm of rain, Chennai has received 387mm of rain since the month of June.
